Queensland Government lock in Olympic venue plans in Australia

Access the research report to learn more about the key points outlined below:

  • Following last October’s election, a second review into 2032 Brisbane Olympics venues was undertaken. The Crisafulli government has now revealed a third and hopefully final venues plan, under which total direct investment should eclipse $10 billion, including related developments (e.g. athletes villages). The overall investment profile is broadly similar to the prior plan but with some changes to the timing of specific projects.

  • A new 63,000 seat stadium at Victoria Park will be delivered as the main venue, replacing plans to upgrade the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (QSAC) alongside refurbishing Suncorp Stadium and the Gabba.

  • The construction of the new stadium will allow for the post-games demolition of the Gabba, opening up an urban renewal precinct. Part of this will be a privately led CBD arena project, replacing the mooted Brisbane Live Arena which has been removed from the games venues plan. The schedule for this is still unclear.
